By accessing or using RentCounsel ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
RentCounsel is an AI-powered platform that provides legal information about tenant rights based on verified statutes and local ordinances. The Service includes AI chat, document generation, and situation tracking features.
3. Not Legal Advice
RentCounsel provides legal information, NOT legal advice. The Service is not a law firm and does not provide attorney-client representation. Information provided by RentCounsel should not be used as a substitute for professional legal counsel. You should consult a qualified attorney for advice regarding your specific legal situation.
While we strive to provide accurate information backed by real statutes, laws change frequently and may vary by jurisdiction. RentCounsel does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any legal information provided.
4. User Accounts
- You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.
- One person may not maintain more than one account.
5. Subscriptions and Payments
- Free tier: 25 questions per month with full statute citations.
- Pro ($7.99/month): Unlimited questions, full citations, document generation, and situation tracker access.
- Pay-per-document: Individual document purchases are available without a subscription.
- Subscriptions auto-renew monthly. You may cancel at any time through your account settings or the Stripe billing portal.
- Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact us within 7 days of a charge for refund consideration.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to solicit others to perform unlawful acts.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its related systems.
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to access the Service beyond normal usage.
- Redistribute, resell, or commercially exploit the content generated by the Service without permission.
- Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information.
7. Generated Documents
Documents generated by RentCounsel are templates created for informational purposes. They are not reviewed by an attorney and may not be suitable for your specific situation. We strongly recommend having any generated document reviewed by a qualified attorney before sending or filing it.
8. Intellectual Property
The RentCounsel platform, including its design, code, and original content, is the property of RentCounsel. Legal statutes and ordinances referenced by the Service are public domain. Documents generated for you are yours to use as you see fit, subject to the disclaimers above.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, RentCounsel and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or other intangible losses, resulting from your use of or inability to use the Service.
RentCounsel's total liability for any claims arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that legal information will be current or accurate in all jurisdictions.
11. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these terms. You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms of Service at any time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
13. Governing Law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
